General Rules
Respect & Kindness. Treat others as you wish to be treated, this includes guests. Racism, sexism, religious intolerance and other various touchy subjects are not accepted here.
Profanity. Profanity is fine, just don't go overboard with it.
Literacy. Use proper English, grammar and punctuation. There's a spell check button beside the preview button, everyone's encouraged to use it. Chat speak, sticky caps and other such murderous forms of the English language are not accepted. You may use chat speak (within reason) in OOC posts and the chat.
Rated P13. We're rated PG13, so basically that means graphic sexual content fades to black. We ask that you tone down the graphic violence a bit, as well.
Spamming. Do not spam the forum or chat. It's rude and annoying. There's a place for you to affiliate, advertise and post links to other sites.
God Moding & Power Playing. As on most RPGs, these aren't allowed. There's a description of both on the Misc Info board. Even if you know what they are, please read Rattus' definitions as they may differ from other sites'.
Activity. Please remain as active as you can. If you're going to be absent for an extended period of time, please let us know in the general boards. If you don't respond to an activity check, your account will NOT automatically be deleted until it's clear that you wont be rejoining us.
Accounts
One Account. You can have as many characters as you can handle, but only one account per member.
Display & User names. No numbers or extra characters (*!?., etc) replacing letters in display or user names. (User name is what you register your account as, display name is what shows when you post. By default your display name is your user name, but you can change it.)
Avatars. Can be no larger than 100 by 100 pixels. This is actually something the forum does by itself. If you have an image larger than that and don't put in 100 in the height and width fields it will re-size the images to 65px by 65px.
Signatures. Cannot stretch the forum. 500px width by 150px height is a good size. If your signature stretches the forum, we have a code in place that will re-size it for you, above your image will be a link to the full sized image as well.
Graphics & Images. There is a code in place that will re-size images larger than 500px in width. As stated above, there will be a link to the full sized image above the re-sized image. Images and graphics should not depict sexually graphic images, extreme profanity or racist material.
Characters
Creativity & Originality. Everyone's encouraged to be creative and original when making their characters. Mary Sue and Gray Stu aren't welcomed here. Everyone and everything has imperfections, as should your characters.
Character Approval. Your characters must be approved before you can role play with them.
Lab Rats. May be of unnatural rat colors, have genetic alternations and various other laboratory related differences.
Wild Rats. Wild rats are of natural rat colors (black, gray, brown etc.), but unusual markings and eye colors are allowed.
Life Span. Real life rats only live for a few years, but on Rattus, rats can live just as long as dogs or cats.
Character Logs. It's recommended that you create a log containing information for all rats. You can use "character plots" such as the ones found on RPGC, or just simply put in their profile information. It's just easier for other members to find information on your rat(s).
IC
Posting. There isn't a word count, but a decent sized post (at least two good paragraphs) is expected. Remember, the more detail the easier it is to make those two paragraphs.
- Please do not make a post a wall of text. Split it into paragraphs. It makes reading a bit easier.
- You may decorate your posts, just keep it to a minimal and make it so the lyrics/poem is distinguishable from the actual post.
Liquid Time. Your character(s) may be in up to four posts at a time. This is so that if you're in one thread and your role playing partner(s) are taking a while to reply, you have the option to role play with others while you wait.
Third Person Narrative. Third person narrative provides the greatest flexibility to a writer. It also makes replying a lot easier for others.
Thank you for reading these rules. They are subject to change at any time. If there is a change, there will be an announcement made, so there wont be any surprises. New or altered rules will be colored in white for the length of one week.
