Likes
- Rat piles: He misses the cuddling warmth of just being able to get into a pile and sleep
- Warm nooks: While other lab rats might be unable to take confined spaces, he’s still a creature of habit.
- Food: He didn’t get to be the size he is by going on a hunger strike, that’s for sure.
- Freedom: He can now go where he pleases and do as he pleases. No more sitting around in a cage waiting for the next test to come.
- Puzzles: He is an intellectual, not a fighter. If the puzzle has food inside, all the better!
- Sunny days: Sometimes he just likes to streeeeetch out in the sun and enjoy the warm and toasty rays.
Dislike
- Wheels: He especially hates exercise wheels, but anything that is circular that can move in a wheel like fashion is something he tries to avoid.
- Fighting: He’s not a scrapper, more of a diplomat, so fighting isn’t on his list of things that he likes to do or is good at.
- Lab Pellets: Dry corn meal packed into a little pellet. Uninteresting and unpleasant, he’s glad to be rid of it even if he’s left to forage for mushrooms or scraps in a trash heap.
- Knowing there are still those in the Lab: He still has family, even a pile of pinkies trapped in the Lab that he was forced to leave behind. They aren’t little ones long and he’s afraid of what will happen to them.
- Rain: wet, soggy, cold... ick
- Getting dirty: With his pure white fur he hates getting dirty. He’ll take a bath and lick himself clean after getting dirty.
Strengths
- Intelligent: A mighty problem solver and an intellectual diplomat, he would rather sit on a book and read or solve conundrums than go out and fight for territoryy.
- Level Headed: He can keep his cool in stressful situations without going crazy with fight or flight responses.
- Sweet: He is a very nice rat and he tries to be there for others seeking advice or just a shoulder to lean on.
- Willing: Mako is willing to work to save his brothers and sisters in the Lab. He would have willingly bent over backwards for Cane if the King had said a price.
Weaknesses
- Oversized: Mako is not a muscle bound rat. He is round and he is extra jumbo and he is fat.
- Pacifist: Even if he could fight, he still doesn’t want to. He doesn’t understand why everything has to come to blows. Of course, he is a very odd rodent.
- Mildly Obsessive-Compulsive: Cleanliness, organization, these things are a must in Mako’s home territory. He will push wrinkles out of fabric and set down a proper ‘floor’if he feels particularly OCD.

One pale pink eye squinted through the bars of his wire cage. They kept him separate, no longer letting him socialize with the others. Were they afraid of what the might accomplish? No longer did they allow him with his brothers or sisters to play and tumble while they did the silly experiments. He turned his head a little, looking at the wheel that went unused in the cage. He was too intelligent for such simple pleasures. All the same he walked over and reached under the stark metal frame to take the paper clip he had hid out from underneath after making sure it was truly quiet.[/size]
The large white rat they called Mako turned his head again, his black eye much better at seeing things as he used paws and teeth to manipulate the metal piece so that he could make a proper pick. At the soft sound of the clip rattling against the inside tumblers of his cage lock... for he was too smart for simple hinges... other heads started to pop up across the room to see what was going on.
“What is it? What is going on?” The voices asked, some of them climbing the sides of their respective receptacles to get a better look. Mako frowned, lifting a finger to his lips.
“Hush, this is not the time for goose necking, settle down, you lot.” He said before climbing on the side a little, nostrils flared as he tried to concentrate. When it popped open, there was a chorus of squeaks and rattles as the large rat swung out on the door that had come open. He was a little surprise, but easily passed it off like he had meant to go flying out like that all along! There were now pleas of ‘over here’ and ‘me next!’ as he climbed down from the door, trying to think of which ones to choose next. How many could he get out before they had to make a run? It saddened him to know that there would be those he could not get to, like the stacks of mothers with their pinkies at the wall. They wouldn’t leave their little ones to save their own lives.
This was the start of a new life and the fate of many others was now in his own little pink paws. “Oh, bugger.” He muttered to himself before putting the impromptu lock pick in his mouth, making his way to other cages to release others to freedom.
